HOW IT STARTED

After necessary submission of request for assessment, The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Advisory report for both RN and RPN was received in Sept and October 2018, respectively. Unfortunately, both had many competency gaps.

Currently, I Need to do Competency Assessment Supplement (CAS) to be a Registered practical nurse (RPN) and, there is a need to take Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) to be a Registered Nurse (RN).

HOW IT IS GONG.

While my application was submitted to NNAS, I filed with all my nursing experiences. A total of 8 years’ experience -2 years in India and 6 years in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile the requirement was experience in the last 5years. My thought was others does not have to be included, hence, nothing was done after this as I was not fully aware or detailed about the about how the Licensure process works.

Rewind backwards to January 2018 when I enquired from College of Nurses Ontario what stage the process was at, response was; the assessment is still ongoing. They further stated the ongoing evaluation includes review of the assessment  received from NNAS  alongside the  forms that were completed by past employers, highlighting  job descriptions that was submitted to College Nurses of Ontario. however in my own case, I had  overlooked the message that they needed verification from all past employers from the time of graduation.

In other words, no more experience was included, just the experiences in the past 5years that was declared to NNAS was the on my profile. I had even written a response letter to CNO that I had nothing to declare.

CROSS ROAD/DILEMMA

The real question here now is would it be ideal to declare the experiences and send them in again for review? Or hold off as I await their response based on previous documents.

Definitely going to proceed to CAS for RPN and OSCE for my RN. Contact has been made to College of Nurses of Ontario today about my precise case. Response was that a letter can still be written to them explaining the situation so other experiences can be filed too. One of the huge concerns is another waiting period for them to go over the additional information to be submitted. However, ongoing process for CAS and OSCE still remains.

The real question here now is would it be ideal to declare the experiences and send them in again for review? Or hold off as I await their response based on previous documents, or continue with CAS and OSCE?
